Construction of four new nursery classrooms in Meise
The new school building is a replacement new build for Klimop Primary School’s nursery section. The construction comprises four new nursery classrooms (two of them featuring a mezzanine), clustered around a circulation space that doubles up as an indoor playground and gym. The building was designed to blend as seamlessly as possible with the neighbouring existing buildings. As much as possible of the school’s open green space was reused, and an intensive green roof was added on top of the structure.
The client opted for timber-frame construction to drastically reduce the construction time and highlight the school’s green credentials. The façades are clad in slate. The exterior joinery’s horizontal layout gives each age group a view of the outdoors.
